Position Overview
The President serves as the external facing co-leader of mindful MATERIALS. This role guides the organization’s long-term vision, industry partnerships, and strategic initiatives while partnering closely with the COO, who manages day-to-day operations.
The President plays a key role in ensuring the long-term sustainability and strategic impact of the organization, aligning resources, funding, partnerships, and initiatives to maximize value and mission outcomes.
The President is a visionary leader who represents mindful MATERIALS externally, builds and strengthens key industry relationships, and helps expand adoption of the Common Materials Framework (CMF) across the built environment.
The President reports to the Board of Directors.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

Lead development and execution of the organization’s strategic vision

Oversee development, evolution, and governance of the Common Materials Framework and identify opportunities to expand its impact and adoption

Work with the Board and staff on long-term planning and growth
Industry Engagement
-
Build partnerships with leaders across architecture, construction, real estate, manufacturing, and sustainability sectors
-
Collaborate with industry experts to identify opportunities to create value for member companies and drive market transformation
-
Represent mindful MATERIALS at industry events, convenings, and collaborative initiatives
-
Position the organization as a thought leader in sustainable materials and transparency
Program and Initiative Development

Guide strategic direction of programs and education that support industry adoption of the Common Materials Framework

Collaborate with members, forum groups, and partners to advance industry tools and standards
Fundraising and Organizational Growth
-
Lead fundraising and development efforts to ensure organizational stability
-
Cultivate relationships with member organizations, sponsors, and industry partners
-
Communicate the impact and value of the organization’s work
Qualifications
Required
-
10+ years of leadership experience in sustainability, the built environment, or related sectors
-
Visionary and collaborative leader with demonstrated ability to inspire action in others
-
Demonstrated experience leading strategic initiatives and partnerships from concept development through execution, with a track record of delivering impact in lean operating environments

Great listener who lifts up the voices of others to build community and accelerate the regenerative materials movement

Strong network within architecture, design, manufacturing, sustainability, real estate owners, and building product industries
-
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
-
Ability to work effectively in a distributed, mission-driven organization
-
Experience with building material transparency tools and sustainability frameworks
-
Familiarity with mindful MATERIALS and its role in the regenerative materials movement including the ecolabels, disclosures, initiatives, and data ecosystem which are mapped and built upon by the CMF.

Proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop staff, strengthening team capacity and supporting long-term career development

Nonprofit or industry coalition leadership experience preferred
