mindful MATERIALS x Greenbuild 2025

Turning Hope Into Action

We all want a better future for the built environment—but hope alone won’t get us there.

At Greenbuild 2025, mindful MATERIALS is turning shared ambition into aligned action with the launch of a powerful, industry-wide toolkit. Developed through the Forums’ radical collaboration, these tools bring structure and clarity to evaluating material impact—so every stakeholder can act with confidence and consistency.

This is how we move from fragmented data to shared progress.
From individual ambition to collective action.
From hope to action.

Launching at Greenbuild: The CMF Implementation Toolkit

The world of sustainable materials is about to get easier. The CMF Implementation Toolkit—built with mindful MATERIALS’ Forum members and partners—delivers practical, open-source resources to put the CMF into action.

Inside you’ll find:

  • Resources per stakeholder to accelerate use of the CMF based on your role in the value chain

  • Updated CMF Resources (Prioritization, Airtable Tools, etc.)

  • Common Ask and Common Give templates to streamline communications and collection of sustainable product info

  • Cross Walks of CMF applicability to major rating systems and pledges like LEED, WELL, LBC, and AIA Materials Pledge

  • Governance updates for long-term consistency

Debuting Nov. 5 at Greenbuild’s Building Materials Summit and online, and featured across education sessions. Available online for the entire community.

Innovation on Display: mindful MATERIALS Pavilion

Join the mindful MATERIALS community in the mindful MATERIALS Pavilion, part of Greenbuild’s Expo. The Pavilion offers new product ideas, networking opportunities, and, new this year, educational sessions. Don’t forget to stop by the lounge for a hot cup of coffee, thanks to sponsor Benjamin Moore, or Grace Farms tea. This is where the materials movement becomes visible—one product, one conversation, one connection at a time.

Insight to Impact: mindful MATERIALS Education Sessions

mindful MATERIALS will host a series of dynamic education sessions in both the Expo Hall’s Networking Lounge and the mindful MATERIALS Pavilion Lounge. These sessions will highlight how the Common Materials Framework—and the new industry-wide toolkit—can help every stakeholder move from intention to implementation with greater clarity, confidence, and impact.

Stay tuned—full schedule and session details coming soon.

Wednesday | 9:15-10AM | Networking Lounge

One Framework. Many Rating Systems. Real Results.

Moderator: Annie Bevan
Speakers:

  • USGBC

  • Rodolfo Perez, IWBI

  • Mike Johnson, ILFI

  • Melanie De Cola, AIA

Materials evaluation is no longer a patchwork of requirements. Today, the Common Materials Framework (CMF) is creating a single, connected approach that makes it easier to earn materials credits across programs like LEED, WELL, and the Living Building Challenge. The result? Less duplication, more alignment, and bigger impact at scale.

In this session, hear directly from USGBC, IWBI, Living Future, and AIA on how their shared commitment to the CMF is removing barriers and driving adoption. Plus, get an inside look from mindful MATERIALS President Annie Bevan on what’s next: global integration that will expand this momentum worldwide.

Wednesday | 3:30-4:15PM | Networking Lounge

Speaking with One Voice: The Power of a Common Ask

Moderator: Laurel Chadzynski
Speakers:

  • Heather Park, Boulder Associates

  • Carey Gallagher, Gensler

  • Jill Pedro, LPA

  • Sean Quinn, HOK

When the industry speaks with one voice, the market listens. By using a shared request for sustainability data, leading design firms are showing how the Common Materials Framework (CMF) can amplify a clear, consistent signal to manufacturers—making product transparency easier to ask for, and easier to deliver.

In this session, hear from Gensler, Boulder Associates, MSR Design, HOK, and LPA as they share case studies from the pilot of the new CMF Implementation Toolkit, launching today. You’ll see how a simple, centralized “common ask” streamlines communication, reduces friction, and accelerates the shift toward connected, transparent materials data. Moderated by mindful MATERIALS’ Laurel Chadzynski.

Thursday | 9:15-10AM | Networking Lounge

From Data to Decisions: How the CMF Powers Real Projects

Moderator: Annie Bevan
Speakers:

  • Barbra BatShalom, Building Ease

  • Jack Dinning, Brightworks

  • Brent Trenga, Kingspan

What happens when the entire value chain, manufacturer, technology platform, design team, and owner, uses connected sustainability data to make decisions? You get workflow that actually works.

This session demonstrates how the Data Ecosystem 1.0 is being applied in practice, showing the flow of information from product manufacturer (Kingspan and Shaw), through a tech platform (BuildingEase), to design teams (utilizing BBB), and ultimately to owners like Harvard and Kaiser. The result: clearer decisions, streamlined communication, and measurable impact reduction.

Thursday | 10:30–11:15AM | Networking Lounge

Introducing the Data Ecosystem 1.0

Moderator: Jen Collins
Speakers:

  • Jack Rusk, C.Scale

  • SCS

  • Rachel Berkin, Rockfon

  • Charley Stevenson, Materially Better (IES)

Sustainability data is only powerful when it drives holistic impact at the point of decision-making. The launch of the Data Ecosystem 1.0 marks a critical step toward that future: a connected infrastructure that makes product information accessible, actionable, and aligned across platforms.

This session unpacks how developing a shared data schema — inspired by the breakthrough work done with ECHO — unlocks the next phase of transformation. You’ll learn how this technical foundation enables data to flow seamlessly across tools, helping design and construction teams evaluate materials through multiple lenses: carbon, human health, ecosystem vitality, circularity, and equity. By broadening the scope from single-impact metrics to a full spectrum of sustainability outcomes, we can accelerate adoption and embed responsible decision-making into everyday practice.

Thursday | 1:15–2PM | Networking Lounge

Solidifying the Foundation: Nonprofits and Industry in Deep Collaboration

Moderator: Laurel Chadzynski
Speakers:

  • Wendy Vittori, HPDC

  • Lindsay Baker, ILFI

  • Don Davies, Building Transparency

  • Annie Bevan, mindful MATERIALS

Transforming the materials market requires more than technical fixes — it demands deep collaboration across the entire ecosystem. Nonprofits like mindful MATERIALS, HPDC, Building Transparency, and ILFI play a unique role in convening stakeholders, aligning programs, and providing the trusted infrastructure our industry needs.

This session explores how nonprofits are working together to accelerate the data ecosystem, integrate initiatives like Declare, and create shared systems that reduce friction and speed adoption. Just as importantly, it looks ahead: what’s needed now to solidify these foundational systems, and how can industry partners actively engage to ensure this work scales and endures?
