Technology Provider CMF Implementation Toolkit
By leveraging this shared language and data schema, we move closer to a connected, efficient Data Ecosystem—one that saves time, energy, and resources through smarter technology.
mindful MATERIALS’ goal is to embed the Common Materials Framework (CMF) directly into the digital workflows and tools where our industry works every day. Whether you provide data management solutions for manufacturers or materials vetting and reporting platforms for AEC/O teams, your tools can integrate the CMF Prioritization v1.0 to create consistency, accelerate automation, and deliver greater value to your users.
A connected, digitized data ecosystem doesn’t happen overnight. It takes collaboration, clarity, and shared action. That’s why mindful MATERIALS has outlined the following steps to help technology partners actively implement and advocate for the CMF across the built environment.
Why This Matters
You’re building the digital connections that make sustainable product data usable. But without shared definitions, the ecosystem remains fragmented—different formats, different workflows, same confusion. Over time, keeping up feels impossible.
Anthony Guerrero, mindful MATERIALS' Executive Director, shows you how the CMF Implementation Toolkit helps cut through the noise. It gives you the foundation to integrate the CMF into your platform—standardizing how sustainability data is structured, connected, and exchanged. By aligning your systems with the CMF, you can support interoperability across programs, eliminate redundancy, and accelerate automation for your users.
"Interoperability isn’t just a tech goal—it’s how we unlock efficiency, scale innovation, and move sustainability from ideal to standard.”
—Anthony Guerrero, Executive Director, mindful MATERIALS
Confirmed Partners:
mindful MATERIALS and our Forums are collaborating with leading technology partners to integrate the CMF across the industry’s most widely used tools—advancing a connected, digitized data ecosystem.

Step #1: Becoming a Common Materials Framework Technology Partner
CMF Tech Partners are software platforms that integrate the Common Materials Framework (CMF) into their tools—connecting, structuring, and scaling sustainable product data across the industry. They power the Data Ecosystem by making CMF-aligned data easier to access, share, compare, and use—while reinforcing mM’s nonprofit mission and neutrality.
How to become a Tech Partner
-
Email us: Include a brief overview of your platform, how it handles product data, and why you want to partner
-
Intro Call: We'll schedule a meeting with you to align on partnership scope and CMF implementation
-
Agreement: Review, sign, and return the CMF Technology Partnership Agreement
-
Activate: Align your data structures, implement the Data Schema v1.0 Beta, and communicate your alignment with the CMF. (See Steps 2-4)
Our Partnership Intent
Through our technology partnerships, mM aims to ensure the CMF remains open, consistent, interoperable, and vendor-neutral so the whole industry benefits.
Neutral & Nonprofit Alignment: Partners align with mM’s role as steward, not gatekeeper.
Open but Controlled: Broad adoption of the CMF with safeguards against misuse.
Value Exchange: Partners benefit from CMF integration while contributing back (financial support, data quality, attribution, services).
Simplicity & Scalability: Agreements are streamlined, repeatable, and adaptable to multiple partners.
Step #2: Aligning with the Common Materials Framework
Organizations align with the CMF in different ways—from high-level (Level 1: Impact Area) to deeply data-driven (Level 4: Factor/Metric). Tools integrating the CMF must be able to demonstrate alignment across these levels. For more detail on the levels of alignment, see the AEC/O and Manufacturer Communication Resources.
Each technology partner may integrate the CMF Prioritization v1.0 differently within their platform but should clearly communicate their level of integration and alignment when presenting solutions to potential customers.
To integrate the CMF Prioritization v1.0 correctly into your tool:
-
Create a free Airtable account.
-
Request access to the CMF Prioritization v1.0 Airtable.
-
Map the CMF framework and related ecolabel/standard certifications in your system to the appropriate levels of alignment as shared in the Airtable.
Step #3: Implementing the CMF Data Schema v1.0 (Beta)
The Data Schema builds on the structure and data points within CMF Prioritization v1.0 and is designed to be widely accessible and easily adopted across systems. It provides a consistent format for exchanging CMF-related product data but does not verify certification content or validate claims against external sources.

To accelerate connected, digitized data, both data providers and recipients must follow the schema to ensure accuracy, matchability, and consistency. While there may be an initial investment to align internal systems, the long-term payoff is significant—saving time, money, and energy across the value chain.
Step #4: Communicating Your Alignment with the Common Materials Framework
Once you've integrated Steps 2 and 3, you'll find a time to meet with mM Executive Leadership to review the functionality, and transition to communications and promotion planning.
mM will share access to communication resources as well as the CMF Technology Partner logo assets. Your communication demonstrates your commitment to consistency, and shared progress—showing manufacturer and AEC/O partners that you're part of the movement advancing clarity and collaboration across the value chain.
How to communicate your alignment:
Internal
-
Ensure your internal teams understand what the CMF is, why it matters, and how it’s being implemented in your system processes.
-
Equip client-facing teams to confidently share your CMF story with partners and prospects.
Public
-
Publish your CMF alignment on your website and social channels, and in your marketing materials and tactics.
-
Communicate your CMF integration to workflow tools, data platforms, and manufacturers to ensure your data is ready for use across the ecosystem.

Putting the Framework into Practice
Every technology partner is helping to solve critical industry challenges—developing solutions that enhance our shared ability to execute. Each has its own journey toward CMF alignment. The path isn’t always linear, but it’s possible, and it’s transformative. Through the guidance outlined above and by learning from peers, tech partners are turning alignment into action—integrating the CMF into their systems, overcoming interoperability challenges, and helping make connected, impact-aligned data more accessible, accurate, and actionable across the industry.
