Making it easier than ever to search for sustainable products by impact.
mindful MATERIALS (mM), the building materials industry’s convener, driving sustainable materials solutions for the built environment, is excited to announce expanded access to the Common Materials Framework (CMF). The CMF is the building materials industry’s first common language for sustainable building products, making finding and comparing sustainable building materials by impact category possible. By delivering consistent information, the CMF empowers users to make informed decisions that drive positive change.
Now available on tools such as BuildingEase, Ecomedes’ Products Portal, and Materially Better — with more platforms on the way — the digital integration of the CMF across numerous platforms is transforming how the industry can find, specify, and ultimately measure holistic impacts. The expanded accessibility of the CMF allows an opportunity to scale product impact considerations across multiple impact categories (not just carbon) in design and construction at scale by continuing to integrate into workflow tools into the future.
“With the CMF now integrated into new platforms, we’re empowering even more stakeholders to make informed, sustainable choices aligned with holistic impact reduction. So not just carbon but human health, social, biodiversity, and circularity impacts in addition to carbon.,” says Annie Bevan, CEO of mM. “This expansion reflects our commitment to meeting the industry where they are and providing seamless access to the information they need. We will continue to expand collaborations with more technology partners in the future. The ultimate goal is that the CMF is everywhere you need it to be.”
This initiative allows the industry to consider impacts beyond carbon at the project level, eliminating any tunnel vision focused on just one impact and any regrettable substitutions when other impacts cannot be considered. By expanding the CMF’s reach, mM and our technology partners are working to ensure the industry can access accurate, connected data, driving more sustainable product choices across the built environment.
“By working closely with leaders in digital product data solutions, we’re changing how sustainable building product information is defined, digitally shared, and used in workflow,” says Bevan. “We need sustainability information in a format everyone can understand, where and when they need it, so we can scale sustainable product use and drastically reduce the impact of the built environment globally.”
