mindful MATERIALS Launches Data Ecosystem Report, Unveiling Vision for a Connected Future of Sustainable Building Materials

With the Common Materials Framework at its core, the industry is aligning around a shared structure to reduce risk, improve decision-making, and embed sustainability into workflows.

Despite its global scale, the building industry still lacks the infrastructure to make responsible material decisions at scale. Sustainability data remains fragmented, inconsistent, and difficult to act on—slowing progress across the value chain.

The Report

In its newly released Data Ecosystem Report, mindful MATERIALS (mM) unveils a bold vision to change that—introducing Data Ecosystem v1.0, a shared digital infrastructure grounded in the Common Materials Framework (CMF).

This ecosystem enables manufacturers to share verified, digitized product data through a CMF-aligned Schema, making that information accessible to architects, contractors, owners, and certification tools—directly within the platforms they already use.

Why It Matters

When data flows—across certifications, platforms, and workflows—impact becomes measurable, decisions get smarter, and sustainability becomes scalable.

Data in itself is not the end goal—the end goal is secured, and scalable foundational infrastructure, the connective tissue that powers a smarter, more connected, and more responsible built environment. Where everyone saves time, money, and energy,” said Annie Bevan, Co-lead of mindful MATERIALs. “The tools and resources mM and its Forum members are creating are this connective tissue that will allow us to speak a common language, track progress, and ultimately redefine what it means for a building to perform—financially, socially, and environmentally.”

A Call to Action

This vision is being led by nonprofits like mindful MATERIALS, Building Transparency, ILFI, and HPDC. But to bring it to life, industry-wide support is essential.

“We’ve laid the foundation—now it’s time to build,” Bevan added. “This isn’t a technology challenge—it’s a collaboration challenge. We’re calling on the industry to lean in, invest, and help make sustainability the standard operating system of the built environment.”
